I am on a quest to eat healthier with the hopeful outcome that I might also lose about ten extra pounds while I'm at it. I AM NOT dieting. I hate dieting. So, here's how it's going...
Day 1:
- tuna with apples, walnuts, and celery in a pita pocket for lunch...very yummy, very healthy and very friendly to my goals
- hubby asks if he can take the family out for dinner...Chinese food - dinner out makes me very friendly towards my husband...not as friendly towards my diet.
- successfully resisted the left over Easter candy I have been secretly sneaking from my children's baskets.
Day 2:
- went to the gym and found out that my healthy choices last week (before I actually even started) have paid off. I'm down a pound. Here's hoping it's not water weight.
- for lunch, a truly terrible Select Harvest soup called Roasted Chicken with Italian Herbs. It apparently had diced asparagus and chick peas in it. I hate chick peas...unless they are ground up, mixed with oil and garlic and called hummus.
- for dinner, I have prepared lots of fresh steamed vegetables and a truly lovely chicken recipe from my sister. After trying to justify all day why I should have some of the gooey sauce that goes with the chicken, I have now resigned myself to the fact that tonight I will be eating a plain old chicken breast while everyone else gets the good stuff.

I have been having the green smoothie...I'm a big fan. And, OH MY GOSH...it's a weight watchers recipe! I might have just a little taste. :)
I am so proud of you!! When Mike and I decided to be healthy, we bought my most favorite cookbook. It's called Eating for Life by Bill Phillips. We bought it 1 year before Blair was born and we still use it 2-3 times a week. The recipies are done by proportion, use realy food with real spices and real sauces. My girls LOVE everything I cook out of there. I have taken things to church events and Bunco games and no one has any idea that it came from a healthy cookbook. It's b/c it uses real food. It really taught us how to eat and introduced us to a few new things that we now love.
It made me sad to hear that you were eating something different than the rest of your family. I can get behind healthy food choices but if you are depriving yourself or eating something different than your family you could possibly send the messsage to your girls that women have to restrict food choices or food intake. Everything is okay in moderation. Besides, I think you have always looked fantastic! I hope I don't offend anyone, but as someone who struggles with food issues I tend to stick my nose where it doesn't belong in the name of preventing other people from developing the same problems.
That's a good word, Jess. I didn't think about that. I will in the future. But, for the record, I did have the lovely sauce that went with the chicken. I just didn't have as much as I might have. And, I would say most of my bad choices come from the little extras that I have in between meals. So, I'm trying to cut those more than anything.
You can stick your nose in wherever you want. I know it's cause you care. :)
